Understanding Your Dog. Supporting You. Transforming Life at Home.

When your dog’s behaviour becomes stressful — whether it’s barking, pulling on the lead, anxiety, reactivity, or growling — it can be hard to know where to start. If you’re specifically struggling with separation-related issues, you can click here for dedicated support.

You might feel frustrated, guilty, or even a bit lost. You love your dog, but something just isn’t working. You’re not alone in that.

If you’re unsure whether behaviour support is the right next step for your dog, I’ve written a short guide that explains when it may be helpful to work with a dog behaviourist and the signs to look out for:

When should a dog see a behaviourist?

I’ll work with you to understand what’s really going on, help your dog feel calmer and more secure, and guide you through clear, kind, science-based steps that make everyday life easier for both of you.

I’m a Registered Veterinary Nurse and qualified behaviourist based in Oxford, and I support you in teaching your dog to feel safe, confident, and understood — without judgement, pressure, or quick fixes.

Any questions about the process? Click below to find out more.
  • I see most dog behavioural issues such as; reactivity or excitment in general, tension between dogs in the home, anxiety problems, chasing joggers, cars and bicycles, resource guarding and various training issues; for instance digging, chewing and excessive barking amongst others.

  • When choosing a behaviour professional, it’s important to look for someone who is appropriately qualified, works to evidence-based, welfare-led principles, and operates within recognised professional standards.

I am a Registered Veterinary Nurse with a Master’s degree in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling, and I work in line with current best practice. I am a provisional member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) and am supported by them while working towards full Clinical Animal Behaviourist status. I undertake regular continuing professional development to ensure my work remains up to date and ethically sound.

  • Yes. Behaviour support is provided in line with professional guidelines and requires veterinary involvement.

You’ll be asked to contact your vet to request a referral, and I’ll guide you through the process. Written communication with your vet is included as part of both packages.

  • Yes. Payment is taken at booking. You’ll then complete a behaviour questionnaire, and your appointment will be confirmed once this has been reviewed.

  • Appointments remain pending while the questionnaire is reviewed to confirm the situation is appropriate for this service. If not, I’ll let you know before the assessment goes ahead. If your booking is cancelled because the Foundation Behaviour Support Package is not appropriate, a full refund will be issued. You will not be charged any fees in this situation.

  • Possibly. The questionnaire allows me to review suitability in advance. If the situation falls outside the scope of this package, I’ll discuss this with you and help signpost you to appropriate support.

  • Dogs with more complex or ongoing behaviour challenges where guidance and support over time are helpful.

  • To ensure this level of support is appropriate for your dog and circumstances, and to confirm that the package is the right fit before going ahead.

  • It is up to you how much effort and time you are prepared to input as to how much success you will see. It takes time though and we can only work at the pet’s pace taking it step by step. Sometimes there can be setbacks, however I will ensure you have all the necessary tools put in place to deal with those issues. We can always organise further follow ups to discuss those problems. How much work you are willing to put in will govern what results you see.

  • I will use only kind, positively rewarded, ethical, evidence based methods to assist with the behavioural issues seen.

  • Behaviour change isn’t about a quick fix or cure. The aim is to understand what’s driving the behaviour and put supportive strategies in place to help your pet cope more comfortably and safely.

I’ll share my professional guidance and experience to help you manage the behaviour effectively and support positive change over time, in a way that’s realistic for you and your pet.

I work with you in three easy, simple steps:

  • Understanding You and Your Dog

I start by gathering information about you and your dog. This includes a detailed behaviour questionnaire and an assessment session, online or in person where available. This helps me understand what’s happening, what may be contributing to the behaviour, and what support is most appropriate. Where needed, I’ll also request a veterinary referral on your behalf.

  • Clear Guidance and Next Steps

After the assessment, I’ll explain what’s going on in a clear, practical way. You’ll receive professional guidance tailored to your dog and your situation. This will be provided as a written summary or a structured behaviour plan, depending on the package you choose.

  •  Support that Matches Your Needs

Some situations can be taken forward using the guidance from the assessment alone. Where ongoing support is appropriate, I’ll continue to work with you through follow-up sessions and ongoing contact, depending on the level of support selected.
